Zoom Security Features
There are several features built-into Zoom to secure your meeting. You may want to use some or all of them if you have a meeting discussing sensitive information.
With the exception of Meeting Passcode being enabled by default, none of these options are required.
Meeting Passcode
As previously mentioned, this feature is enabled by default on our account. This policy is a direct result of "Zoom Bombing" stories in the news during the Summer of 2020 (we can't recall what happened, but something did that caused Zoom usage to sky-rocket in 2020)
If you want to remove this, though we do not recommend it, it's a pretty simple process involving unchecking a box.
- When scheduling your meeting, look for the Password section and uncheck the "Require..." box
-
PRO TIP: you can create a custom passcode just by clicking in the box, deleting what's there, and enter your own number
Meeting ID
We recommend not changing the auto-generated (default) option as it randomizes your meeting ID's
- Random numbers are harder to guess than using the same ID (Personal Meeting ID) or custom ID over & over
Authenticated Users
This option allows only those with Zoom Accounts (paid or free) to join a meeting
In Meeting Options: Participant Button & Window
This is a nice feature that helps you identify who's in your meeting and remove anyone you don't recognize.
- Once your meeting starts, click the Participants button, in the bottom row of your meeting window
- Click that button will open a window to the right of your meeting, this window displays all the participants and give you access to the below controls.
- Hovering your cursor/mouse over any name displays the Unmute/Mute and More buttons.
- The More button allows you to Remove the attendee or put them on Hold.
Lock the Meeting
At the bottom of the Participants window, pictured above, you will find another More button. This menu gives you the option, among others, to lock the meeting and prevent others from joining.
